Welcome to the cosy atmosphere of an authentic, traditional and award-winning smoke sauna on the shores of Lake Poskijärvi! Kinkamon Pirt's smoke sauna is built with love and respect for tradition from the wood of the host's own forest, and has been awarded twice by the International Smoke Sauna Club.

Before taking a sauna, you can refresh yourself on Kinkamo's 2.5 km nature trail or on the elf trail, a favourite with children. After the fire, a dip in Lake Poskijärvi or in the open water completes the relaxing experience. A cosy sauna can be enjoyed in a cottage or in the lodge, which are at the sauna-goers' disposal.

What makes the Kinkamo smoke sauna special?

The Kinkamo smoke sauna is hand-built from aspen trees that dried for years before being put into use. Hannu, the sauna host, will be happy to tell you about the history of the sauna and to give you an introduction to the smoke sauna culture and the correct way to make a fire in a smoke sauna.

The Kinkamo smoke sauna has a stove heated from the outside with 600 kg of stones - perfect steam is guaranteed by long preparation. This has also been recognised by the International Smoke Sauna Club's awards for excellent strokes.

Sauna facilities and equipment

The sauna can accommodate 10-12 people and there is a small room next to the sauna where you can rest and enjoy refreshments. Tablecloths and sauna hats are available on site.

Instructions and additional services

Please bring: bathrobe, towel, swimming costume and footwear. Towels can also be hired. The rental price includes access to nature trails, coda and use of the lava. Other activities can be found in the excursions and activities services.

Accommodation can be booked separately in Kinkamo's log cabins and in summer there are beach activities such as boat and canoe hire for an additional fee.

More information about the Kinkamo smoke sauna: Hannu's dream was to build a proper smoke sauna. Our company has been awarded with a Certificate of Honour at the Ikaalinen Sauna Festival. The criteria were: for preserving the smoke sauna tradition and excellent sauna results, finishing second in 2018 and 2019 . The construction of the smoke sauna started with the felling of aspen trees in 2010, which need to dry for several years. Hannu managed to make three layers of the frame before he injured his back and hands. The work was interrupted during this time. In time, the project resumed and the hundreds of hours of work were completed for test use. The sauna stove is heated from the outside. The heater contains around 600 kg of stones and the sauna is always heated up ready for the customer. The heating starts hours before the bathers arrive. Once the fire is lit, it must be controlled and the wood added several times, which takes about two to three hours. The smoke sauna is allowed to 'warm up' for a while after the soaking to allow the mild heat to settle. Sufficient time should be allowed for bathing. Behave calmly in the sauna and avoid unnecessary chatting so as not to upset the elves. Sauna hats are provided for use in the sauna, which you can wear if you wish. During the sauna, the steam is poured out to ensure that the sauna is suitably humid. The water must be clean so that the heater is not contaminated with impurities that can cause damage during the bath. If necessary, the ceiling louvre can be opened to provide a refreshing flow of air into the sauna. During the sauna, you will sweat a lot, and you can wipe up any sweat that drips out on the towels provided in the niche in the alley. Between baths, you can go into the enclosure to cool off and enjoy the water that is provided. Drinking water is very important during a sauna.
